Gandhinagar, July 28 (UNI): Prabhu Raja, President of Semiconductor Product Group (SPG), said on Friday, “We firmly believe that this is India’s time.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated ‘Semicon India-2023’ today at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. On this occasion, industrialists from India and abroad associated with semiconductor and chip production praised India and Gujarat’s favorable policies for semiconductor manufacturing. During the event, Mr. Prabhu Raja stated, “We firmly believe that this is India’s time. There are numerous technological challenges today, and collaboration and innovation are crucial to address them. We have 25 global players and five local players present here today.”
Sanjay Mehrotra, President, and CEO of Micron Technology, expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for India’s efforts to become a global semiconductor hub. He also thanked Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel for supporting the development of a conducive ecosystem for semiconductors. He said, “We are not just doing this for Micron, Gujarat, or India but for the future of technology worldwide.”
Yang Liu, Chairman of Foxconn, said, “Foxconn has been a strong participant in the semiconductor supply chain for almost 15 years. To build such capabilities, various skills, trust, and enthusiasm are required. I hope Taiwan’s enthusiasm will also be welcomed in India, and India will become the semiconductor ecosystem hub. Taiwan is the most trustworthy partner for India, and it will remain so.”
Ajit Manocha, President, and CEO of Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI), stated, “India will become a powerhouse in the semiconductor sector in Asia. In the next six to seven years, the global semiconductor industry will reach up to one trillion dollars. India has formulated robust policies related to semiconductors. For the first time in India, we have policies conducive to semiconductor production. Credit for this goes to Prime Minister Modi, Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Rajeev Chandrasekhar. As the CEO of SEMI, I can say that SEMI will fully support the development in the semiconductor sector.”
Mark Papermaster, Executive Vice President and CEO of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), announced that AMD will invest $400 million in India in the next five years. By the end of 2028, they plan to add around 3000 additional engineers to contribute to the development journey of India’s semiconductor ecosystem.
Anil Agarwal, Chairman of Vedanta Group, said, “Gujarat is the right place for becoming India’s Silicon Valley. We are pleased with the conducive ecosystem created by the Gujarat government. Vedanta is committed to creating semiconductor and display fab units.”
Kedens Aniruddh Devgan, President, said, “Investing in India’s semiconductor industry brings great joy. India will play a crucial role in the future of semiconductors. Here, we have several students, executives, and global companies involved in chip design, while the US has many technologies. However, compared to each smart individual, India has hundreds of smart people. Investing in semiconductors will create immense opportunities for India. This investment will not only benefit global producers or large companies but also encourage local and indigenous product companies.”
