New Delhi, August 7, 2023: Bharti Airtel, a prominent telecommunications service provider in India, has introduced Xstream Airtel AirFiber, its fixed wireless access (FWA) offering, utilizing 5G technology for consumers in Delhi and Mumbai.
The absence in fiber connectivity has become obvious as the demand for home Wi-Fi has increased over the past few years. With only 34 million homes connected through fiber in India, a substantial number of customers lack fiber access. Airtel Xstream AirFiber pioneers as the nation’s first 5G wireless Wi-Fi solution, designed to serve customers residing in areas with limited fiber access. By tackling the fiber infrastructure limitations in both urban and rural India, this innovation seeks to address the issue of last-mile connection. The plug-and-play device, equipped with Wi-Fi 6 technology, offers expansive indoor coverage and can concurrently connect up to 64 devices.
Shashwat Sharma, Director of Consumer Business at Bharti Airtel, commented, “While fiber to the home remains the gold standard for home Wi-Fi, Airtel Xstream AirFiber bridges the connectivity gap for areas lacking this privilege. Today, we are excited to introduce Xstream AirFiber in Delhi and Mumbai, with a nationwide rollout strategy on the horizon.”
Airtel Xstream AirFiber’s service is accessible through an affordable 799 plan, providing speeds of up to 100Mbps. Customers can opt for a six-month plan with a one-time refundable security deposit of Rs. 2500.
To avail the service, interested customers can visit select Airtel stores in Delhi and Mumbai and enroll for Xstream AirFiber. For more details, please visit www.airtel.in/xstream-airfiber.
Airtel’s ambition includes expanding the service to multiple cities and scaling it up nationally in a phased manner. All Xstream AirFiber devices will be produced in India under the “Make in India” initiative.
