Trump Denies Attempting to Change 2020 Election Results

Washington, August 4 (PTI) Former US President Donald Trump has denied allegations of attempting to change the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Trump appeared in a federal court here. He filed a plea in the court of Indian-origin American judge Magistrate Mokshila Upadhyay, stating, ‘I refuse to accept the charges of not acknowledging the crime. He is preparing to stand for the presidential election next year. He arrived at the court with a large convoy of vehicles.

When the hearing began, Justice Upadhyay asked, ‘What does Trump have to say about the allegations from one to four?’ In response, Trump, surrounded by his lawyers, said, ‘I have committed no crime.’

The judge informed Trump that he would be allowed to leave, but with the condition that whenever the court calls him, he must be present. Trump is now scheduled to appear before US District Judge Tanya Chutkan’s court on August 28, but he has the option of exemption from personal appearance.

Federal court has established four charges against former US President Donald Trump regarding attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 elections.

This is the third time this year that criminal charges have been brought against a former American president.

The Special Advocate of the US Department of Justice had submitted a 45-page charge sheet, on which the Grand Jury heard for months and recorded statements of some of Trump’s close associates to determine how he attempted to change the defeat of the Democratic Party’s former candidate Joe Biden. Biden took the oath of office as President in January 2021 after winning the said election.

The charges against Trump (77) include conspiracy to defraud the United States, tampering with witnesses, conspiring against citizens’ rights, and obstructing official procedures.

In an attempt to change the decision of America’s 2020 presidential election, Trump’s supporters attacked the US Capitol (American Parliament building) on January 6, 2021.

The charge sheet stated, ‘Despite the defeat, the defendant (Trump) was committed to staying in power. Therefore, from the day of the election on November 3, 2020, until more than two months, the defendant spread lies that the election results were fraudulent and he was actually declared the winner. These claims were false, and the defendant knew it.’

In his statement, Trump told his supporters that he did nothing wrong and the charges against him were politically motivated. Trump also dismissed the allegations that he did something wrong after the 2020 elections.
