No problem or objection in maintaining mosques: Om Mathur

Jaipur, January 3 (PTI) Om Mathur, senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), responded on Tuesday to the appeal of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, who urged to keep mosques populated in the country, stating that the BJP has no issue or objection in it because Hinduism does not hurt the religious sentiments of others.

However, he questioned whether the construction of a mosque at the birthplace of Lord Ram is appropriate.

He also commented that All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Owaisi himself would visit Ayodhya to tour the Ram Temple.

Om Mathur, on Tuesday at his residence, told reporters, “BJP or BJP’s government, or Hinduism, or Sanatan Dharma, does not comment on anyone’s faith. We have no problem or objection in keeping mosques populated.”

He said, “But where Lord Ram was born, a mosque was forcibly built there… this has been proven in history… the decision of the Supreme Court has been made… so we did not engage in breaking any mosque.”

He said, “If they say to keep it populated, then we are happy with it… there is no objection in keeping it populated… Let them do it. In a few days, Owaisi will also visit the temple… he will also visit Lord Ram.”

Commenting on Owaisi’s statement, Mathur said, “Owaisi himself will go to Ayodhya to see the Ram Temple.
