Once again without Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the Indian team came out to bat after losing the toss. The opening pair of Gill and Kishan got India off to another good start. There was a partnership of 143 runs in 19.4 overs for the first wicket between the two. Kishan, playing an aggressive role in this partnership, scored 77 runs off 64 balls with eight fours and three sixes. He was stumped trying to hit a big shot to Yannick Kariya.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, who came out to bat at number three, could not make a big score, but the batsmen who came after him did not disappoint. Samson, who failed in the second ODI, added 69 runs for the third wicket with Gill. Samson scored 51 runs in just 41 balls with two fours and four sixes, although he returned to the pavilion after completing his half-century.

Samson justified his selection by scoring a half-century, although Suryakumar could only manage 35 runs off 30 balls with two fours and two sixes. Gill was inching towards a hundred but Gudakesh Moti, with his leg-spin, bowled him over long-on and was eventually caught out for 86. Gill hit 11 fours in his 92-ball innings.
