Decision to Ban Opium Usage in the Chaukariya Seervi Samaj

Pali: The campaign for drug-free society and the elimination of opium and doda post addiction in the Seervi Samaj has been ongoing for more than 17 years. Extensive efforts have been made, including conducting awareness campaigns and meetings in various locations, including Marwar, to raise awareness. This has gradually increased awareness within the community, and now people are willingly keeping their villages and events free from opium addiction.

In this series, a meeting of the Chaukariya-Ranavas Seervi community was held under the chairmanship of President Bhatnagar Barfa on August 22, 2023, at Bader Bhawan. During this meeting, an important unanimous decision was taken to eliminate social customs involving opium during any auspicious events such as weddings, welcoming ceremonies, engagement ceremonies, thread ceremonies, Dhundh (an event for child’s 1st holi), Doria (ritual custom during weddings), Vidai (bride’s farewell), or any other religious celebrations, whether they are held at home or at a public place. It was agreed that the consumption of opium (amal) during these events will not be allowed. Only one person may handle and prepare the opium. If any member does not adhere to this decision, they will be deemed guilty by the Chaukariya Seervi community and a fine of Rs. 5,100/- will be imposed. This decision was immediately implemented.

The meeting was attended by a significant number of respected individuals, including Jamadari Bheraram Rathore, Kotwal Giridharilal Sindda, Pemaram Barfa, Bheraram Agalecha, Dhaglaram Sindda, Nemaram Rathore, and Babulal Agalecha, among others.
