Attack in Niger, Nearly 31 People Dead

Niamey, August 17 (uni) – In recent armed attacks in Niger, about 31 people have been killed. The information was reported by the Actuniger news portal on Thursday, citing sources.

According to the report, on August 15, armed forces attacked Nigerian villages, resulting in the deaths of around 31 people. All the victims were residents of the Tillaberi region in the northwest. A coup took place in Niger on July 26. President Mohammed Bazoum was overthrown by his own guards under the leadership of General Abdourahmane Tchiombiano and was taken into custody.

Following the coup, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), a regional political and economic organization comprising fifteen countries, suspended all financial assistance to Niger and seized the assets of the insurgents. Additionally, restrictions were placed on commercial flights to and from the country. At the beginning of August, ECOWAS leaders agreed to deploy an extra force to restore Bazoum during a summit in the Nigerian capital, Abuja.
